Frequently asked questions
Which parts of my design are printed and which are stitched?
Photos, gradients and fine detail are printed. Bold lettering, logos and borders are usually stitched for texture. Tell us your preference, and your free proof shows the final mix.
Can you put a photo on an embroidered patch?
Yes. The photo is printed in full colour and we stitch the border and lettering around it, so the patch still has an embroidered look.
Printed embroidery or embroidered and printed patches?
Printed embroidery patches are mostly printed with stitched details on top, best for colourful artwork. Embroidered and printed patches are mostly stitched with printed areas for photos or fine detail.
What is the minimum order?
The minimum order is 15 pieces for Embroidery and Printed Patches. The more you order, the lower the price per piece.
How is my price worked out?
Your price is based on the average of the width and height you enter and the quantity you order, using the price table on this page. Any paid options are added as you choose them, and the total updates as you go.
Which backings can I choose?
You can choose plain backing, Pellon backing, iron-on backing, tape backing, Single Velcro (hook side), Double Velcro (hook and loop), safety pin backing or key chain. Plain backing is included. Any extra cost for the others shows when you select them.
Which backing holds best?
Sewing it on is the most secure option and lasts through regular washing. Velcro is best if you want to remove or swap it. Iron-on is quick for cotton and polyester, but avoid it on nylon, leather and waterproof fabrics.
Which shapes and sizes can I order?
Sizes from 2″ to 12″. You can pick from 39 shapes, or choose Custom shape to have it cut to the outline of your artwork.
What are the patches made from?
Your design is made on a base fabric. You can choose standard twill or flannelette when you order.
Can I choose the colours?
Yes. We match the colours to your artwork. You can also pick the border colour from our thread chart, or choose Same as my artwork. If you have Pantone (PMS) colours, add them in the instructions box.
Are there any design limits?
Most designs can be stitched. Very small text and thin lines are hard to stitch on patches under 3 inches, so we may thicken or simplify them. Any change is shown on your proof before production starts.
Which artwork files can I send?
Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) reproduce best. High-resolution PNG, JPG, and WebP files are reviewed and we will tell you if anything needs redrawing.
What if my artwork is not ready yet?
Choose Email later and send your artwork after you order, or choose Get design help and tell us your idea. Production only starts once you approve the artwork.
Do I see a proof first?
Yes. A production proof is issued for you to check spelling, dimensions, colours, and placement. Production starts after you approve it.
Can I see a real sample before production?
Yes. You can ask for a photo of your actual item before we make the full order. The extra cost is shown next to the option.
What extras can I add?
You can add an individual polybag for each piece.
How long does production take?
You choose this at the last step. The standard option has an estimated production time of 17 working days with no production surcharge. Faster options from 11 working days cost more, and a slower option costs less. The date shown is when your order is ready to ship, not when it arrives. If you have a fixed deadline, tell us before you order.
How much is delivery?
We ship to the UK, Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and worldwide. The delivery charge depends on where you are and the size of your order, and it is shown before you place your order. Orders sent outside the UK may have import taxes or duties set by your country. "Included" on a production option means no extra production cost, not free delivery. See our Shipping & Delivery page.
How do I care for my patches?
Wash inside out on a cool cycle and avoid tumble drying. If an edge lifts, a few stitches around the edge will hold it in place.
