Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between embroidered and woven patches?

Embroidered patches use thicker thread for a raised, textured look. Woven patches use finer thread, so they hold small text and thin lines better and feel flatter.

What is the minimum order?

The minimum order is 10 pieces. The more you order, the lower the price per piece. You can see every price break in the price table at the top of this page.

How is my price worked out?

Your price is based on the average of the width and height you enter and the quantity you order, using the price table on this page. Any paid options are added as you choose them, and the total updates as you go.

Which backings can I choose?

You can choose plain backing (sew on), Pellon, iron-on, tape, single Velcro (hook side), double Velcro (hook and loop), safety pin, key chain or magnetic backing. Plain backing is included. Any extra cost for the others shows when you select them.

Which backing holds best?

Sewing the patch on is the most secure option and lasts through regular washing. Velcro is best if you want to remove or swap the patch. Iron-on is quick for cotton and polyester, but avoid it on nylon, leather and waterproof fabrics.

Which shapes and sizes can I order?

Any size from 2 to 12 inches, in 39 shapes such as circle, square, shield and star. Choose Custom shape to have the patch cut to the outline of your artwork.

What are the patches made from?

Your design is stitched with embroidery thread onto a base fabric. Standard twill is used for most patches, and you can choose flannelette or nylon instead at step 7.

Can I choose the colours?

Yes. We match the thread colours to your artwork. You can also pick the border colour from our thread chart, or choose Same as my artwork. If you have Pantone (PMS) colours, add them in the instructions box.

Are there any design limits?

Most designs can be stitched. Very small text and thin lines are hard to stitch on patches under 3 inches, so we may thicken or simplify them. Any change is shown on your proof before production starts.

Which artwork files can I send?

Vector files (AI, EPS, PDF) reproduce best. High-resolution PNG, JPG, and WebP files are reviewed and we will tell you if anything needs redrawing.

What if my artwork is not ready yet?

Choose Email later at step 8 and send your artwork after you order, or choose Get design help and tell us your idea. Production only starts once you approve the artwork.

Do I see a proof first?

Yes. A production proof is issued for you to check spelling, dimensions, colours, and placement. Production starts after you approve it.

Can I see a real sample before production?

Yes. At step 8 you can ask for a photo of your actual patch before we make the full order. The extra cost is shown next to the option.

What extras can I add?

You can add sequential numbering and an individual polybag for each patch.

How long does production take?

You choose this at the last step. The standard option has an estimated production time of 12 working days with no production surcharge. Faster options from 5 working days cost more, and a slower option costs less. The date shown is when your order is ready to ship, not when it arrives. If you have a fixed deadline, tell us before you order.

How much is delivery?

We ship to the UK, Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia and worldwide. The delivery charge depends on where you are and the size of your order, and it is shown before you place your order. Orders sent outside the UK may have import taxes or duties set by your country. "Included" on a production option means no extra production cost, not free delivery. See our Shipping & Delivery page.

How do I care for my patches?

Wash inside out on a cool cycle and avoid tumble drying. If an edge lifts, a few stitches around the border will hold it in place.

Where to use embroidered patches

Popular uses

Embroidered patches are tough, washable and look sharp up close, so they work almost anywhere you want a logo to last.

  • Sports teams and clubs

Club crests, team badges and award patches for kits, jackets and bags. Sew on or Velcro backing keeps them secure through training and washing.

  • Uniforms and workwear

Company logos and name patches for workwear, security and hospitality uniforms. Sew on or Velcro backing suits uniforms that are washed often.

  • Brands and merchandise

Branded patches for hats, hoodies, denim and bags. Great for retail ranges, launches and staff gifts.

  • Schools, scouts and events

Badges for schools, scouts, charities, reunions and events. Order from 10 pieces, and the price per piece drops on bigger runs.

Tips for great embroidered patches

Good to know

  • Keep the design simple at small sizes

Thin lines and tiny text are hard to stitch below 3 inches. Bold shapes and fewer colours give the cleanest result, and your free proof shows how the design will stitch.

  • Pick the right backing

Iron on is quick for cotton and polyester. Sew on or Velcro is best for items that are washed often or need to be swapped. Avoid iron on for nylon and leather.

  • Care for your patches

Wash inside out on a cool cycle and avoid tumble drying. If an edge lifts, a few stitches around the border will keep the patch secure for years.
